Prof. Gebre has been working at Addis Ababa University since 1988. From 2018 to 2021, he served as the President of Jinka University, Ethiopia. He obtained his Ph. D. (Anthropology) in University of Florida. He has extensive research experiences in various field of studies: population movement (resettlement, migration, refugees, and diaspora), inter-ethnic conflict and cooperation, customary laws, the role and challenges of civil society organizations, culture and development, indigenous knowledge, impacts of urban development, and disadvantaged groups (OVC, elderly, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, etc.) He has devoted himself to the development of local communities in the domains of cultural heritage, education and public health through the collaborative works with foreign researchers, international development assistance agencies, embassies.
